This Italian Palazzo-style mansion, built in the 1880s by businessman Samuel Nickerson, is truly a Chicago time capsule. Adler Planetarium

This was the first planetarium on the western hemisphere and one of the first of its kind in the world, designed in an art deco style and inspired by German planetariums from the 1920s. The Adler, which opened in 1930, hosts permanent exhibits, rotating installments, and adult-only evening events. Its one of the most popular Chicago museums with its great location in downtown along Lake Michigan.

Field Museum

This is Chicago’s top natural history museum, home to permanent and special exhibits on display year-round. Learn about ancient Egypt, wild animals, and previous gems. See the most complete T-Rex skeleton in the world, and enjoy stunning views of Chicago from the museum’s north entrance. It’s an impressive classical revival building that opened in 1921, boasting impressive views of the city. As one of the best Chicago museums, it attracts about 2 million visitors every year.

Shedd Aquarium

As one of the top Chicago museums, it also provides interactive learning experiences for visitors of all ages. Save some time to explore the building itself and the elegant grounds that surround it. It’s the last building leftover from the famous World’s Fair of 1893 having been used as the Palace of Fine Arts. Forty years later, it became the Museum of Science and Industry, one of the top Chicago museums.
